GENERATION 2: Bluetooth + RF COMBO LED Controller
Meet the latest addition to the BOOGEY LIGHTS® family of COMBO LED Controllers. Built on the Bluetooth 5 chip set, our GEN2 LED controllers are a new and improved version of our time-tested GEN1 LED controllers which have been in production for the last seven years. These new GEN2 LED controllers have the same capabilities as our GEN1 LED controllers along with some new features, capabilities and design improvements.
GEN2 HIGHLIGHTS
- Larger, more-robust G2 M7 hand-held RF remote for wireless operation. This totally re-designed hand-held RF wireless remote is a significant improvement over our GEN1 M7 remote. Will work with RGB, RGBx and RGBxx LEDs.
- Significantly improved radio signal strength for both RF and Bluetooth which increases the effective range as much as 4x over the previous version.
- GEN2 uses the new Bluetooth 5 chip set. Our GEN1 controllers are based on Bluetooth 4 BLE which was the standard in 2015. Version 5 is newer; it's twice as fast as Version 4. The payload too has twice the capacity. The result is much faster response times. Also, this new Bluetooth 5 chip set uses even less battery power.
- New Quick-Switch Trigger feature eliminates the need to use relays for RGBx installations. Plus, the RF hand held remote has the ability to activate just the 'x' diodes. This feature is available on the new GEN2 Super, HD Single Zone and HD Dual Zone LED Controllers.
- Our Super, Single Zone and Dual Zone Heavy Duty GEN2 LED controllers are capable of powering RGB, RGBx and RGBxx LED strips on the same controller. All offering RF + Bluetooth control for all formats. By comparison, our GEN1 controllers only power RGB LEDs. Additional switching and/or control mechanisms were needed for RGBx and RGBxx LEDs.
- The GEN2 APP offers two new often requested features: Time of Day On/Off programming and a Countdown Timer. These two new capabilities allow the user to program the controller to turn the LEDs on/off at pre-determined times of the day as well as start a countdown timer to shut off the LEDs in X hours.
- Password protection to stop others from connecting to your LED controller.
FOUR GEN2 CONTROLLER MODELS

GEN2 FEATURES
An overview of features, capabilities and capacities of each of these four models appear in this chart.
All GEN2 LED Controllers offer BOTH Bluetooth + RF wireless control. The PLUS version is offered in RGB only (3 channels output). The remaining three versions are RGBxx capable with up to 5 channels of output. The 'xx' refers to the ability to power up to 2 additional color channels or diodes ('xx' is in lower case on purpose to indicate they're being used as a variable). Example: RGBA = RGB + Amber. RGBW = RGB + White (2400k). RGBWW = RGB + White(2400k) + White(4500k). You do not have to use all color output channels. Just make sure you cap off any of the color channels you aren't using. Photos of these controllers can be viewed in the product photo carousel of this page.
COMBO = BLUETOOTH and RF Wireless Combined In ONE LED Controller. Our COMBO LED controllers combine the best of our RF and Bluetooth LED controllers into one simple to use LED controller. You can operate this controller with your Bluetooth enabled smart phone and our free smart phone APP (Android and IOS) OR use the included hand held RF wireless remote. With the included RF wireless remote you get all of the functionality to change between 7 pre-set colors (Red, Green, Blue, White, Light Blue, Lime Green/Yellow, Hot Pink/Purple) and functions of on/off, blending, strobing, breathing, flashing, fading and dimming. You can also use your Bluetooth enabled smart phone to create that custom look with over 16 million different color combinations plus three pre-sets with a RGB LED strip. If you're using the GEN2 controller with an RGBA, RGBW or RGBWW LED strip, you get additional color funtions using the RF wireless remote and Bluetooth APP for the additional LED diodes.
Brake Flash / Quick Switch Feature
All GEN2 LED controllers have either a Brake Flash or Quick Switch feature which can be triggered by applying 12vdc + to the YELLOW input wire to the LED Controller. Details are as follows:
Brake Flash: Available on our GEN2 PLUS LED Controller (the RGB only controller). If hooked up, this feature instantly turns off whatever color is being displayed by the LED controller and only displays the color RED. It's commonly used for motorcycle lighting applications as a safety feature. To make it work on a motorcycle (or other motor vehicle), the yellow trigger wire is connected to the 12vdc brake light circuit on the vehicle. Whenever the brakes are applied 12vdc power is sent to the controller via the yellow trigger wire and the RED leds attached to that controller turn on (and any other color – if on at the time – will be off). When that 12vdc power to the yellow trigger wire is turned off, the LED controller goes back to the state it was in.
Quick Switch: The Quick Switch feature is available on our SUPER, HD SINGLE ZONE and HD DUAL ZONE LED Controllers (all RGBxx controllers). It operates just like the Brake Flash feature except that instead of using the red led output wire, it uses the WHITE output wire. Whatever color LED you have connected to the WHITE output wire is the color that will display when the Quick Switch is triggered with 12vdc +. The most common use for this configuration is with commercial vehicles who want to be able to instantly turn off whatever color they're running and turn on a DOT compliant AMBER which is on our RGBA LED strips. For these installations, the yellow trigger wire is connected to a toggle switch or other wireless switch that activates the AMBER leds. You can also do the same thing with the RGBW product. When the Quick Switch trigger wire is not energized, the LED controller operates the RGBxx diodes normally.
POPULAR BLUETOOTH FEATURES IN GEN2
COUNTDOWN TIMER. Gives you the ability to turn off your Boogey Lights in X hours and Y minutes. To set this timer, the lights must be on and set the way you want them to look. Then, set your countdown time (hours and/or minutes). When you press the START button, the countdown timer begins. The lights will shut off when the countdown time reaches 0.
ON/OFF TIMER. Gives you the ability to turn your lights on and off at pre-determined times every 24 hour cycle. When setting this timer the lights must be on and set the way you want them to look. Then set your on and off times using the APP. When you press SAVE, the lights will turn off. You can then close the APP. The lights will turn on and off at the times you programmed every 24 hours.
PROGRAMMABLE COLOR ROTATION. Gives you the ability to program the controller to display two or three colors of your choice and then rotate those colors in sequence. For example, let's say it's Fourth of July and you want your lights to rotate through the color sequence of RED, WHITE and BLUE . Or, perhaps your favorite sports team's colors are Red and White and you want your lights to rotate through a color sequence of RED and WHITE. You can also vary the speed of the sequence as well as the brightness. You can also choose from one of two different sequencing effect modes: BREATHING or ROLLING. Additionally, you can save these configurations in up to 3 presets per effect such that you're able to recall the lighting configuration with a press of a button.
Note that for either of the timers to work, the LED controller must have power. The LED controller does not have a 'memory'. The controller gets it's time reference from the phone when connected to the Bluetooth APP. If for any reason the controller loses power, the controller's time reference will be lost and any timers that were set will be disabled.
NOTE: While these controllers are rated for a specific number of LED's your particular installation may affect the actual number of LED's you can run on these controllers. Be mindful of the amount of amperage you’re drawing through your lighting circuit and to not exceed the circuit component limitations. The amount of power (amps) you’re pulling through the circuit will vary based on a combination of three factors: 1) The number of LEDs in the circuit, 2) the amount of copper wire in the circuit and 3) the input voltage to the circuit. The amperage ratings for our controllers and LEDs assume 12.5 vdc input or less. If you're wiring your lights to a vehicle that has a charging mechanism (e.g. alternator), the input voltage will likely increase when the engine is on; particularly as RPMs increase. It's not unusual for an alternator to charge the battery at a rate of 13.5 to 14 vdc depending upon the vehicle. Increasing the input voltage to the LED Controller/LEDs will also increase the amperage draw of those LEDs because they’ll burn brighter.
MOUNTING ADVICE All Boogey Lights® LED Controllers are deisgned for use on all kinds of motor vehicles in all kinds of weather. They are water resistant and can be used outdoors. They are not however water proof. They should not be submerged in water or subjected to direct water contact for long periods of time. It's certainly OK for them to get wet though. For longevity and best performance, we recommend mounting the LED Controller in a location that will be protected from the elements and in particular, direct water contact. Note too the LED controller should be mounted in an area where there is sufficient air flow around the box to keep it from over-heating. This is particularly true if the number LEDs you have connected to the controller is within 25% of the controller's maximum capacity. The more LEDs you add, the hotter the LED controller will get particularly as it approaches maximum capacity.
Boogey Lights® LED controllers have a 1 year to 3 year, original owner limited product warranty depending upon the application and installation environment. Warranty does not cover batteries or the failure of a single wireless RF remote.
- G2 M7 Remote uses one CR2032 3v alkaline battery (included with remote).
- KEY FOB Remote uses one MN27 12v alkaline battery (included with remote)

USING WITH SINGLE COLOR LEDS
YES! It can be done. The advantage of using an RGB controller with single color LEDs is that in addition to being able to turn them on/off, you can also dim the lights as well as access additional features such as flashing, strobing and breathing. Plus, since all GEN2 LED controllers are Bluetooth capable, you can also control your single color lights via Bluetooth. If you're thinking of using this GEN2 LED controller with single color LEDs, here's a GEN2 wiring diagram to assist you (see page 6).

WILL BOOGEY LIGHTS® WORK WITH OTHER BRANDS?
The short answer is probably not. All Boogey Lights® RGB LED strips are COMMON CATHODE LEDS. They share a common ground and will only work with positively switched controllers. Most LED strips on the market today are COMMON ANODE because the controller technology used to power them is less expensive to manufacture. However they're not nearly as bright and are an overall inferior design when compared with COMMON CATHODE LEDs. For more information, click the button below.
